Willis Childers

Willis R. Childers Sr., 73, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Mingo County, W.Va., native was born Oct. 17, 1940, a son of the late Willis H. Childers and Mabel Porter Thornton. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon Robinson Childers, whom he married July 7, 1974.

Mr. Childers was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a U.S. Air Force vteran. He was a former lockman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was an active member of the Leatherwood Missionary Baptist Church where he served as choir director and trustee. He was also a member of the South Point Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Fern Roberts; and three brothers, Mike Childers, Richard Childers and Steven Childers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Donna Childers; one brother, David Childers; two sons, Willis Childers Jr. and Trina Delawder, of South Point, and Wesley and Julie Childers, of Hilliard; a daughter, Sheila and Ray Collins, of South Point; 12 grandchildren, Hannah (2), Brooke, Jeremy (2), Joshua, Megan, Cole, Levi, Willie, Cody and Sydnee; and four great grandchildren, Alexa, Jacob, Braden and Jaden.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leatherwood Missionary Baptist Church in South Point with pastor Mike Huff officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Donna Koster

Donna Leona Koster, 69, of Coal Grove, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 3, 1944, the daughter of the late James and Ethel Meyers Longshore. She was raised by Stella Koster along with Paul Koster.

Donna was a 1962 graduate of Ironton High School and was retired from the Lawrence Federal Savings Bank, where she was a teller. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Koster; and a sister, Vera Tate.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clarence L. Koster; two sons, Adam (Kim) Koster, of Miami, Fla., and John (Beth) Koster, of Ironton; four sisters, Annie Bond, Patricia Baker, Sandra Brown and Connie Peck; two brothers, Henry “Buddy” Walk and Robert Meyers; and five grandchildren, Caleb, Hailee, Reagan, Jaron and Cannon Koster.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Opal Thomas

Opal Eleanor Thomas, 79, of Patriot, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She is survived by her husband Richard Thomas. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville with pastor Troy Delaney officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Huntington. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hall Funeral Home. Charles Conner

Charles F. Conner, 87, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at River’s Bend Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville by pastor Walter Woods, pastor Charles Turley and pastor Hern Adkins. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens. David Rakes

David Howard Rakes, 47, of Proctorville, died Friday, March 28, 2014. There will be private family services. Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville assisted the family with arrangements.

 

 

Eugene Cline

Eugene Emerson Cline, 64 of Ironton, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Woodland Chapel Church with pastor David Shugg officiating.

Graveside rites with full military honors by the Army Memorial Detail and the Kenova Post along with Masonic Honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast with pastor Shugg officiating.
