Ohio sweeps all-star games

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — The local girls helped put on an all-star performance.

Fairland Lady Dragons’ Terra Stapleton and four other girls from Southeast Ohio played key roles to help the Ohio All-Stars outscore the Kentucky girls’ team 114-91 Saturday at the 23rd annual Ohio-Kentucky All-Star basketball game.

The 6-foot-4 Stapleton scored eight points in the “Battle At The Border” held at St. Thomas More College.

Reedsville Eastern guard Jenna Burdette had 16 points to lead Ohio. Jackson’s Lydia Poe had eight points and Madison Ridout four, and Oak Hill Lady Oaks’ Leanna Adkins added two points.

Ohio State recruit Alexa Hart of Division III state champion Africentric scored nine points.

In the boys’ game, Ohio made it a sweep with a 100-91 win.

Jeff Thomas and Antonio Woods scored 16 each and Kevin Vennatta 11 for Ohio. Grant Benzinger — son of former Cincinnati Reds’ first baseman Todd Benzinger — had eight points for Ohio.
