LLOYD, Ky. — Just like the recent weather, the Ironton Fighting Tigers were looking for that ray of light on a dreary day.

Three Ironton pitchers gave up just five hits but combined for nine walks in a 7-1 loss to the Greenup County Musketeers on Wednesday.

A bright spot for Ironton was the relief work of Dane Wilson who pitched four innings and allowed just three runs.

“Dane kept Greenup hitters off-balance by mixing his pitches up really well,” said Ironton coach Larry Goodwin.

“Dane was able to get that first strike on the hitters and that is very important in high school baseball.”

Ironton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Wilson walked, Tanner Price put down a sacrifice bunt, Harley Paholsky was hit by a pitch, and Andy Bruce and Trevor Easterling both walked.

But Greenup got four runs in the bottom of the inning on a hit batsman, and RBI triple by J.T. Boggs, three walks, a passed ball and a hit by Korey Morris.

Greenup used two walks, an error and a hit by Chase Clary to get a run in the third.

Morris tripled and scored on a passed ball in the fourth. The final run scored in the sixth on a walk, a hit batsman and Jess Hall’s double.

Greenup left nine runners on base and Ironton left 10.

“As a team, we have to continue to work to eliminate walks and errors on defense and strikeouts on offense,” said Goodwin.

Ironton plays Lawrence County at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Greenup County Tournament.
