CHESAPEAKE — Patience is a virtue. It’s also a key element toward being a good hitter.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers saw the benefits of their patience as they banged out 14 hits en route to a 13-4 win over the Chesapeake Panthers on Tuesday.

“We were patient at the plate tonight and we were able to get into some advantage counts and then put some good swings on pitches in the strike zone,” said Ironton coach Larry Goodwin.

Dane Wilson was 3-4 with a run batted in, Lucas Campbell 3-5 with an RBI and Harley Paholsky 2-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the offense. Dre Boehm also had a triple.

Derek Battise and Cody Rawlins combined for the win.

“Our pitchers only had two walks and that is big for us. We have a good defense. Our pitchers need to pound the strike zone and let our defense go to work,” said Goodwin.

“Sophomore Cody Rawlins came in to relieve (Derek) Battise and gave us three strong innings.”

Ironton got two runs in the first inning on walks to Trevor Easterling and Dane Wilson, a single by Luke Diamond, a double play ball and an RBI hit by Hunter Klaiber.

The Fighting Tigers erupted for seven runs in the second inning as they parlayed three walks, a hit batsman, RBI singles by Wilson and Lucas Campbell and a run-scoring triple by Harley Paholsky.

After Chesapeake scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, Ironton got four runs in the sixth.

Campbell, Tanner Price and Paholsky all singled for a run. An error scored a run, Easterling singled in another run, and Diamond hit a sacrifice fly.

The Panthers had 12 hits with Dakota Hutchison going 3-4 with three RBIs and two doubles. Casey McComas, Kolton Webb and Blake Lester were all 2-4.
