Lady Pointers make early lead stand up

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Lady Pointers got their bats going early and let the pitching and defense finish up.

South Point jumped out to an early lead and went on to beat the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 6-2 on Tuesday.

“Our bats have been inconsistent the last few games and we seem to be coming out of it,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tanner Heaberlin.

“Abbey Winkler had a good game at the plate and we played as good of defense as we have most of the year.”

Kaitlyn Brown got the win as she allowed six hits and struck out seven in going the distance. She also went 3-3 at the plate with three runs batted in.

Winkler also went 3-3 for the Lady Pointers (7-5).

South Point scored a run in the first inning when Abbey Winkler singled, stole second and Haley Rawlins had an RBI single.

The lead went to 4-0 in the second.

Halie Powell reached on an error, Brown singled and Emilee Powell and Winkler followed with RBI doubles.

The Lady Pointers made it 6-0 in the third.

Andi Kleinman doubled, Halie Powell singled and Brown had a two-run double.

Ironton got both its runs in the sixth inning.

Kylie Barcus had a single, Kylee Metzger was hit by a pitch and Meghan Taylor had an RBI double. Taylor Monk followed with a run-scoring single.
