PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen must have had dugout fever.

Having not played since last Thursday, the Redwomen showed how anxious they were by scoring eight runs in the first three innings en route to an 8-4 rain-shortened win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Tuesday.

“The girls came out early and were aggressive which gave Sami (Nixon) some run support early,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.

Nixon struck out nine, walked one and hit batter while allowing seven hits as she got the win for Rock Hill (13-5).

Nixon also hit a home run as the Redwomen got eight hits. Jill Hairston was 2-3 to pace the offense.

Aley Carmon was 3-3 and Meghan Taylor doubled to lead Ironton.

“The girls did the little things, Sami pitched a good game and the defense held up,” said Gue. “But give Ironton credit. They hit the ball.”

Rock Hill got four runs in the bottom of the first.

Kaci Russell walked, Hairston singled and both moved up on a sacrifice by Hannah Roach. Russell then scored on a passed ball.

Brooke Hanshaw walked and stole second and Hairston scored on a passed ball. Pinch-runner Brooklyn Massie stole second and Jenna Lane and Anna Darby each followed with RBI bunt singles.

Ironton got a run in the top of the second when Ariel Whitt reached on an error, stole second and scored on a pair of passed balls.

The Redwomen answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Hairston singled, Roach hit into a fielder’s choice, Hanshaw was safe on an outfield error allowing a run to score and Eastham singled in a run.

Each team scored twice in the third.

Carmon singled, Ariel Whitt was hit by a pitch and Taylor had a two-run double for Ironton.

Darby walked and Nixon belted a two-run homer for Rock Hill and it was 8-3.

Ironton got a run in the fifth. Breanna Klaiber, Carmon and Laken White all singled and Katie Burcham reached on an error.

Rock Hill began batting in the bottom of the inning but rains forced the game to be called early.
