SOUTH POINT — They say records are made to be broken.

They were.

A total of 10 records — five boys and five girls — were broken and one tied at the annual Art Lydiard Classic and Legends Classic track and field meet Friday.

Minford won the boys’ meet with 131 points while Athens was second with 99 points. Athens took the girls’ meet with 150 points and Gallipolis was a distant second with 80 points.

Of the records set, two local players were among the new marks.

Rock Hill’s Seth Miller ran a 10.00.9 to win the 3200 meters while Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Jordan Porter smashed the shot put record by nearly 10 inches with a heave of 47-10.5. The old mark was 38-2.

Rock Hill will host its invitational meet next Friday. The Ohio Valley Conference meet is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17.
