SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers used an outstanding pitching performance to clinch an outstanding season.

Alex Whitt pitched a four-hit shutout as the Pointers blanked the Chesapeake Panthers 2-0 Wednesday and clinched the Ohio Valley Conference baseball title on senior night.

The Pointers are now 15-2 overall and 8-0 in the OVC.

Whitt struck out one and did not issue a walk.

Chesapeake’s Joe Bias pitched well in defeat as he gave up only four hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

South Point got the only run it needed in the first inning.

Trey Kearns reached second base on an error and scored on a hit by Brandon Boggs.

The Pointers added an insurance run in the sixth when Chris Woodard was safe on an error, stole second, took third on a passed ball and came home on a single by Logan Wade.

Wade went 2-3 while Dakota Hutchison was 2-3 for Chesapeake.
