PEDRO — This time the Rock Hill Redmen got the cigar.

After coming close in recent games but failing to get the win, the Redmen found a way to win this time as they edge the Fairland Dragons 6-5 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We’ve played some close games and we needed to win a close game. We were able to come up with runs when we needed it. We needed a win going into the tournament,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kyle Sowards singled, stole second, Tyler Campbell singled him to third and an error on the play allowed the run to score.

Rock Hill (12-7, 5-5) answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Aaron Dalton singled, Jonah Cox reached on a error and Cox stole second. Jack Goodwin hit a sacrifice fly and Cox scored when Jonathan Joseph reached on an error.

Jordan Hairston doubled home a run, Corey Noel singled to put runners on the corners and Hairston came home on a wild pitch.

Dylan Murphy hit a leadoff home run as Fairland made it 4-2 in the second.

The Dragons tied the game in the fifth.

Collin Damron was safe on an error, Campbell singled, both moved up on a wild pitch and walks to Brandon Burcham and Murphy forced in a run. A ground out scored Campbell.

The Dragons took a 5-4 lead in the sixth when Sowards singled, Trace Adkins had a sacrifice bunt, a throwing error sent Sowards to third and he scored on a hit by Damron.

Only one of Fairland’s runs was earned.

The Redmen took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brandon Schob was hit by a pitch and pinch-runner Chance Blankenship went to second on a hit by Drew McClaskey. An outfield error moved the runners up and Dalton’s infield hit scored a run. A throwing error on the play scored McClaskey.
