AID — Trent Thompson had made a habit all season of limiting teams to only a few hits.

Thompson pitched a one-hitter as the Symmes Valley Vikings beat the Chesapeake Panthers 7-2 Friday.

Thompson struck out nine and walked four in going the distance.

“Thompson threw well. He’s not too bad for a sophomore,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

Casey McComas walked, stole second and Jacob Henson singled in the first inning for the Panthers’ only hit. An error scored a run and Henson scored on a bases loaded walk.

The Vikings got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Seth Jarrell walked, stole second, and Jacob Klaiber and Jacob Easthom singled.

The Vikings took the lead with three runs in the fourth.

Cameron Meadows singled, Jonathon Kouns walked, the runners moved up on a fielder’s choice and Lane Wilson had a two-run single. Wilson stole second and Jarrell had an RBI single.

Three more runs scored in the sixth.

Jarrell walked, moved up on a passed ball and Tanner Mays singled for a run. Dillon McFann and Easthom walked and Meadows hit a two-run single.

Symmes Valley (17-3, 12-2) had 11 hits with Mays and Wilson going 2-3 and Meadows 2-4.

On Thursday, the Vikings lost a 9-8 heartbreaker to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans in a battle for the Southern Ohio Conference title.

The Vikings trailed 4-1 after four innings, but Mays hit a two-run homer in the fifth to highlight a five-run inning.

However, the Titans scored five in the bottom of the inning to lead 9-6 and held on for the win.
