Pirates escape Panthers, 2-0

WHEELERSBURG — The Chesapeake Panthers didn’t make it easy.

The top-seeded Wheelersburg Pirates had to battle for a 2-0 victory over the Panthers Saturday to win the Division III sectional tournament.

The Pirates had just two hits by took advantage of six walks to get the win.

Joe Bias worked four innings and Blake Lester two as the Panthers handcuffed the Wheelersburg hitters.

Wade Martin pitched a three-hitter for the Pirates. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Jacob Roe and Nathan Jones walked, Tristen Browning beat out a bunt single to load the bases and Nick Marshall hit a sacrifice fly.

Wheelersburg made it 2-0 in the fifth when Martin walked, stole second base, moved up on a ground out and came home on Cam Parsley’s base hit.

Bias was 2-3 and Bobby Arthur 1-1 for the Panthers’ hits.

Chesapeake visits River Valley Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
