Patricia M. Layne

Feb. 19, 1931-July 12, 2014

“When I die, I want my obituary to tell the people about God, and me.” God is our Salvation, the way, the truth, and the light. There is a Heaven, and it waits for you.” On Saturday, July 12, 2014, Heaven received the soul of Pat Layne.

Patricia Marlene White Layne was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Coal Grove to Clarence C. and Hazel Ruth (Craft) White. She was educated in the Ironton City School system and married William Willis (Bill) Layne in 1948.

She was baptized on a winter day in Storms Creek in the early years of raising her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, and their eldest son William R. (Billy Ray) Layne in 1968. Also preceding her were her parents and her siblings: Clarence (Bubby) White, Jr., Suzanne Anderson Blair, and Harry Michael Anderson, and a special cousin, Beoda White Gholson.

Surviving Pat is her last sibling, Mrs. Dreama Murnahan Gibson (Thurman) of Waverly. She will leave behind her children and their families: Vicki and Bill Mascari of Upper Arlington, Faye and Mick Kitts of Abilene, Texas, Mike Layne and the late Debbi Brubaker Layne, of Columbus, Suzie and David Keller of Franklin Furnace, with whom she resided since 2004, Tommy Layne of Franklin Furnace, Eric and Kristi Rose Layne of Brookeville, Md.; grandchildren: Mike and Lisa Mascari Justice of Hilliard, David and Cortney Mascari of Charlotte, N.C., Chris and Kelly Kitts of Grandbury, Texas, Carey and Sheila Kitts of Abilene, Texas, Aaron and Marcy Layne of Westerville, Matt Dierken, Jamie Keller, and Hilary Keller of Franklin Furnace, Ruairi and Hayley Keller Grant of Astoria, N.Y.,, Chuck and Roseanne Layne Lewis of Franklin Furnace, Brad Layne and Adam Layne of Brookeville, Md.; great-grandchildren: Nathan Justice, Sofia and Roman Mascari, Kelci and Kadi Kitts, Carter, Jackson, and Wilson Kitts, Caden and Annabelle Layne, Landon and Caleb Lewis (and their unborn sibling). ‘Mamaw’ Layne was very proud of the fact that this family all started because of her. And so are we.

Services of celebration and remembrance will be under the direction of Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home.

Viewing and condolences at Tracy Brammer-Monroe will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday. The service by pastor Eric Barnes, will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ironton. Viewing at noon and service at 1 p.m. p.m. on Saturday with the burial at the Haverhill Cemetery, Old U.S. Route 52. Donations may be made in memory of Pat to Operation Christmas Child or the Faith and Fitness Center both at First Baptist Church, 304 S. Fifth St., Ironton, OH 45638.

 

 

Nicholas Miller

Dec. 24, 1953- June 30, 2014

Nicholas (Nick) Miller passed away in his home in Murphysboro, Ill., on June 30, 2014.

Nick was born in Portsmouth on Dec. 24, 1953.

He grew up in Franklin Furnace. He was surrounded by a large, loving family.

He lived a large portion of his adult life in Elgin, IL.

Nick was a truck driver all his life and worked until about a month before his death.

Nick’s greatest joy were his cats. They were like his children.

Nick is survived by sisters, Judy Daugherty of Genoa, Ill., Dawn Thompson (husband Dan) of Franklin Furnace, Paulette Boggs of Franklin Furnace, and Rosy Mullins (husband Chip) of Mansfield; and brothers, Robert E. Miller (wife Carolyn), Wayne Miller, Texas, David Miller (wife Mary) of Crown Point, Ind., and Mike Miller of Franklin Furnace.

He was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad, Robert and Beulah (Peg) Miller; brother Jack Miller; sister, Joyce Craig; nephews Johnny Miller and Allen Clifton and nieces Lovetta and Lisa.

Nick was survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nick’s positive attitude and contagious smile will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be at Harrison-Pyle Funeral Home in Wheelersburg on from 1-3 p.m. Saturday followed by food at the Golden Corral in New Boston. Come join us to celebrate Nick’s Life.

 

 

Mladen Samokovski

Mladen “Mario” V. Samokovski, 69, of South Point, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Geraldine Conway

Betty Stevens

Betty Jean Stevens, 67, of Sias, W.Va., died Wednesday July 16, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington.  She is survived by her husband, Walter E.
