Donna Bryant

Donna Lou Bryant, 77, of Springfield, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at 4:30 a.m. at Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Bryant was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Lawrence County, a daughter of Matthew and Alma (Webb) Heighton. She was a gifted pianist who was known to play at several different churches, but primarily she played at the Church of Christ in Christian Union in London. She was a graduate of Ironton High School and worked for many years at the Madison Press as a typesetter.

She is survived by sons, Danny (Gwendelyn) South, of South Vienna, Doug (Robin) South, of Springfield; daughter, Nancy Susan (Kim) Pagels, of London; brother, Sam (Penny) Heighton, of Ironton; grandchildren Sarah South, Michael South, Matthew South, Danita (David) Dixon and Bemjamin Pagels; great-grandchildren Malachi and Andreanna Winget, Lucas and Alyssa Dixon, and Maiya Nicewaner and Brigette Dorrelle; and many nieces and nephews.

Aside from her parents, Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her husband, Dansel South; and a sister, Nancy Sutton.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 124 E. High St. in London. Interment will follow in the Kirkwood Cemetery in London. The family invites friends to call the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.

John Mullins

John William Mullins, 44, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014. The Lawrence County native was born July 13, 1970, a son of Simeon A. “Buddy” Mullins Jr. of Ironton and the late Geneva F. Aldridge Mullins.

John was a 1988 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a former self-employed construction worker.

In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter, Samantha Mullins, of Ironton; a stepson, Channing Mullins, of Ironton; a brother, Don Mullins, of Ironton; three sisters, Kathy (Randy) Wilson, Ragina Hackworth and Lois (Ike) Johnson, all of Ironton; a very special grandson, William Alan Brown-Mullins; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Blagg and the Rev. Jesse Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton and noon until time of service on Tuesday at the church. Robert Darst

Robert Leroy Darst Jr., 50, of Proctorville, died Friday July 18, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Darst, of Monticello, Ga. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Miller Memorial Gardens by Pastor Ronnie Tyree. There will be no visitation. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville is in charge of arrangements.
