With the second-half tax bills coming into the Lawrence County treasurer’s office this week, the county is on pace to equal and potentially surpass collections from the second-half of 2013.

These are essential funds for the county coffers, as this money is dispersed to various entities throughout county government along with the school districts.

Just like a business, a vital component is to ensure collections of revenue due and develop several avenues for collection.

Over the past several years, the treasurer’s office has done just that, affording Lawrence County residents multiple outlets to pay their property taxes.

The thought of standing in long lines at the courthouse in some cases could have lead to lax in collections. However the ability to pay online, set up contract payments, and drop off payments at various financial institutions while maintaining traditional options of paying at the courthouse or mailing payments fostered an environment that was convenient for taxpayers.

While residents have a responsibility to pay property taxes each year, streamlining the payment process has been beneficial for both the county and its residents.
