SOUTH POINT — It looks like the South Point Pointers started the season with senior night.

The Pointers — led by eight seniors — stunned the Wheelersburg Pirates 2-0 Tuesday in their soccer opener.

“We have eight seniors and they stepped up today,” said Pointers’ nine-year coach Zane Joy. “That was one of the more athletic games I’ve seen.”

Trey Kearns scored one goal and had an assist to lead the Pointers who broke a scoreless tie with two goals in the second half.

Justin Taylor got the second goal and foreign exchange student Matt Krivan had an assist on the first goal by Kearns.

South Point goalie Brady Rickard had eight saves.

The Pointers play at 8 p.m. Thursday at East Carter, Ky.
