It turned out the only thing that could stop the St. Joseph Flyers on Tuesday was Mother Nature.

The Flyers rolled to a 4-1 halftime lead over the Chesapeake Panthers before rain forced the soccer game to be called early.

“Event though the weather didn’t let us finish, it was great to play on our home field. The kids played outstanding,” said Flyers coach Mike Balestra.

Tre Neal scored two goals for the Flyers while Peyton Adkins and Dylan Arrington each added a goal. Blake Balestra and Alex Ward had assists.

Goalkeeper Joey Bush recorded five saves.

The Flyers had 20 shots on goal to eight for Chesapeake and each team had two corner kicks.

St. Joseph was called for two off-sides penalties while the Panthers had none.

Coach Balestra praised the team’s defensive effort.

“The defensive backs of Jacob Clark, Chris Lewis, Trey Young and Clay Willis had another good game,” said Balestra. “Zach Kelly and Seth Kelley also contributed defensively.”

The Flyers (3-2-1) play at Cross Lanes, W.Va., on Thursday.
