Lady Fighting Tigers split pair of volleyball matches

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers split a pair of volleyball games as they beat the Rock Hill Redwomen in an Ohio Valley Conference match but lost a tough three-set match to the Jackson Ironladies.

“The girls are playing very competitively,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell. “I just need to keep pushing their buttons to force their drive to success.”

On Tuesday, Ironton beat Rock Hill 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20. Karlie Rase led all scorers with a career-high 17 points for Ironton.

Macy Wise had 11 points, Lexie Washington seven and Jordan Hannan six.

Jenna Lane topped Rock Hill with 1o points, Elizabeth Wilds had six and Adrianne Neal five.

Washington also had nine kills with Rase and Wise getting five each. Hannan had 23 assists.

In the reserve match, Ironton won 25-7, 25-13 as Alyssia Rowe had 13 points, Alyssa Lewis 10 and Zakia Lee seven.

On Wednesday, Jackson edged Ironton 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.

Hannan led Ironton with 10 points while Rase and Washington had six each, and Taylor Hannan five.

Rase and Washington each had seven kills while Macy and Lexi Wise each had three. Jordan Hannan racked up 19 assists.

Jackson’s Katie Hemsley had 12 points with Hannah McDonald and Katlynn Jackson netting 10 each.

In the reserve match, Ironton fell 14-25, 21-25. Rowe scored eight points for Ironton.

Avery Ervin had 11 and Emily Brown seven for Jackson.

Ironton hosts Coal Grove at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in an OVC game.
