ROCKSPRINGS — The Fairland Dragons had 733 total yards including 601 passing and scored 69 points.

They also lost.

In an offensive shootout that looked more like a basketball score, the Meigs Marauders outlasted the Dragons 79-69 Friday in a non-league game.

Fairland quarterback Chance Short was 26 of 42 passing for 601 yards and six touchdowns. Dylan Murphy caught nine passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns.

Five different receivers caught passes including Collin Damron who had four grabs for 143 yards and three scores for the Dragons.

Meigs (1-1) also had 733 yards of offense. The Marauders ran the ball 64 times for 607 yards with Michael Davis carrying the ball 37 times for 353 yards and he caught three passes for 54 yards.

Davis scored eight touchdowns, six on the ground including a 45-yard jaunt with 1:45 left that sealed the win.

Meigs led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and pulled ahead 29-7 early in the second quarter.

Fairland (0-2) got a 49-yard scoring pass to Murphy but Davis had a 6-yard TD run and it was 35-15.

Damron’s 43-yard touchdown reception and Colton Brumfield’s conversion run cut the deficit to 35-23, but English ran 60 yards for a touchdown as time expired and it was 41-23 at the half.

The Dragons got a pair of scoring runs of 13 and 21 yards by Brumfield to begin the second half and trailed 41-35.

But Meigs scored three straight touchdowns to open up a 63-35 lead.

The Dragons came right back and scored twice, the second a 42-yard Short-to-Murphy touchdown pass and it was 63-49 with 26 seconds left in the quarter.

A 1-yard run by Brumfield made it 63-55, but Davis squirted loose on a 37-yard run and his conversion run put the lead at 71-55.

Collin Damron caught a 15-yard pass from Short and the conversion pass to Trace Adkins closed the gap to 71-63 with 6:20 left.

Davis scored with 1:45 left on a 45-yard run and English ran for the conversion to make it 79-63.

Fairland capped the wild affair with a 61-yard scoring pass to Brumfield with 1:24 left.
