PORTSMOUTH — If the goal is to continue to improve, the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ golf team is moving in the right direction.

Ironton posted its best team score of the year with a 174 as they fell by nine strokes to a strong Greenup County Musketeers team on Thursday at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club.

“They kids played well and they are all showing improvement,” said Ironton coach A.J. McKnight.

“We’re young and we just have to keep working.”

Jaylen Thornhill shot a 41 to pace four Ironton golfers who shot in the 40s.

Chandler Dodson and Cory Rawlins each carded a 44 and Mitchell Weisgarber was one shot back at 45 for Ironton.

Trevin Dutey had a 50 and Jacob Thomas a 55.

Austin Blevins and Ian Cremeans each shot a 39 to lead the Musketeers.

Levi Meadows had a 42, Drew Stultz 45, Caleb Adkins 48 and Ethan Potter had a 50.

Ironton plays South Point at Sugarwood on Monday.
