Fighting Tigers 2nd at Portsmouth Elks

PORTSMOUTH — Good course, good effort.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers turned in a good performance at the tough Portsmouth Elks Golf Course on Tuesday in a tri-match.

Portsmouth had a 169 to win the match while Ironton shot a 180-team score and South Webster had a 201.

Jaylen Thornhill fired a 38 — just one shot behind medalist Trent Rodbell of Portsmouth — to lead Ironton.

Cory Rawlins shot a 41, Chandler Dodson 49 and Trevin Dutey 52 to round out Ironton’s top four scores. Mitchell Weisgarber and Mason Slagel were just one shot back at 53.

Besides Rodbell, Brandon Jones had a 39, Austin Jones 44, Hayden Harcha 49, Jahmir King 50 and Chase Matiz 61 for Portsmouth.

Patrick Burnett’s 43 led the Jeeps. Alex Moore and Bricker Johnson had a 52, Luke Collins 54 and Levi Rawlins 57.

Ironton hosts St. Joseph, Coal Grove, Rock Hill and Portsmouth Clay on Monday.
