Lady Tigers 3rd at volleyball showcase

When asking who are the key players for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, they just hand you a roster.

Using a total team effort, Ironton won two of its three matches and finished third overall at the Ironton Showcase Volleyball Classic on Saturday.

“The team played OK and we are getting closer to where we need to be by tournament time,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell. “Everyone is beginning to contribute and we seem to have everyone back and healthy.”

Zane Trace was the team winner with South Point second and Ironton third.

Ironton started with a 25-19, 25-8 win over Ironton St. Joseph.

Jordan Hannan led Ironton with 16 points, Lexie Washington had 8, Taylor Hannan 7 and Zakia Lee 6. Macy and Lexi Wise had 5 kills each.

The Lady Fighting Tigers lost to Zane Trace 25-15, 25-20.

Jordan Hannan and Washington had 5 points each while Alyssa Lewis and Lee had 3 each. Tori Starr racked up 17 digs in the two games, Karlie Rase had 5 kills and D’Laynie Keight 4 kills. Washing had 7 blocks.

In the third game of the day, Ironton topped Paint Valley 25-23, 25-11.

Rase led all scorers with 13 points including 3 aces. Macy Wise had 4 aces among her 6 points, and Jordan Hannan had 6 points and Taylor Hannan 4 with all 10 points being aces.

Keith had 5 kills with Macy Wise get 3 kills.

Ironton visits South Point at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Chesapeake at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
