Neurosurgeon dies from injuries following car crash

David L. Weinsweig, MD, died late Saturday evening at St. Mary’s Medical Center as a result of injuries received in a car crash on Sept. 8, 2014. The single-car accident happened on Interstate 64 in Putnam County. Dr. Weinsweig was a neurosurgeon with St. Mary’s Neurosurgery. Dr. Panos Ignatiadis, the senior physician at St. Mary’s Neurosurgery, said the entire medical community is saddened by the loss. “Dr. Weinsweig was truly one of the most talented neurosurgeons in the country and he was well respected by all the physicians, nurses and other medical professionals in the Tri-State.” Michael Sellards, president and CEO of St. Mary’s Medical Center, said Dr. Weinsweig leaves behind a legacy of medical excellence that touched thousands of people. “So many patients have shared stories with us about how Dr. Weinsweig improved or saved their lives with surgery,” Sellards said. “The St. Mary’s family joins with the rest of the community in extending our condolences to Dr. Weinsweig’s family as they mourn the loss of a husband and father.”
