PROCTORVILLE — The passing was good. So was Sidney Payne.

Payne scored one goal and had four assists as the St. Joseph Female Flyers blanked the Fairland Lady Dragons 9-0 on Tuesday in girls’ soccer.

“We got off to a good start tonight with good movement and passing,” said Female Flyers’ coach Kyle Weatherholt.

“Sidney Payne did an outstanding job as playmaker setting up four goals. Meg Alexander didn’t see a lot of action in goal, but she made two great saves when Fairland got through and tested her.”

Lynsey Booker had two goals in the win while Kaylee Sheridan, Sydney Wain, Emma Saxby, Ophelia Weatherholt and Emma Williams scored one each.

Amber Neal added an assist.

St. Joseph (8-0) took a 5-0 lead in the first half and got four more goals in the second half.

“We scored three goals in the first 20 minutes. Fairland then made a good defensive adjustment playing their defenders much higher catching us offside five times,” said coach Weatherholt.

“In the second half our girls adjusted to the higher line well by playing to our strikers’ feet, then getting good penetrating runs from the midfield.”

St. Joseph hosts Huntington St. Joseph Thursday and visits Cross Lanes, W.Va., Saturday.
