Chesapeake at Portsmouth Notre Dame

QB: Notre Dame’s Jonathon Major was 6 of 8 passing for 107 in last week’s loss to Grove City Christian. He is the only returning starter in the Titans’ backfield.

RB: Titans’ Michael Collins ran 23 times for 109 yards last week and Hayden Phillips scored three tims with 84 yards on 17 carries.

OL: Senior guad C.J. Smith 6-2,190) anchors the line.

Defense: Senior lineman Evan Coriell (6-2, 240) and Smith are the top players on defense.

NOTES: Notre Dame racked up 251 rushing yards last week in a 43-32 loss to Grove City Christian. Titans graduated a lot of players from last year’s playoff team including two backs who combined for more than 3,000 all-purpose yards and 46 TDs.

Rock Hill at Portsmouth West

QB: Senators’ Steven Irwin was 7 of 17 for 60 yards last week. He is in his second year as the starter.

RB: West’s Trevar Welch ran for 97 yards in last week’s loss to Liberty Union. He also threw a 28-yard halfback pass for a touchdown.

DEFENSE: Josh Davis had 12 tackles in last week’s game.

NOTES: The Senators are 1-2 but the losses are 7-0 to Newark Catholic and 13-7 last week to Liberty Union, both playoff teams last season. First-year coach Ben Johnson likes to spread the field and throw as opposed to West’s traditional running style offense.

Wheelersburg at Fairland

QB: Pirates’ Austin May was 15 of 19 for 229 yards and three TDs in a 45-13 rout of Portsmouth last week. May also ran 14 times for 157 yards.

RB: The Pirates use several running backs including Chasen Burk, Jacob Hutchinson, Kyle Davis, Jordan Howard.

WR: Tyler Jenkins, Jacob Spradlin, Burk and Howard are all targets in a balanced offense.

NOTES:The Pirates have scored more than 40 points in each of their three games en route to a 3-0 record. Fairland is 0-3 but the Dragons have scored 179 points behind QB Chance Short. The two teams met twice last year with the Pirates winning 49-32 and 40-21 in the playoffs.

Symmes Valley at South Gallia

QB: Rebels’ Landon Hutchinson was 6 of 17 for 166 yards and two TDs last week.

RB: The running game was shut down by Trimble’s strong defense last week. Dakota Wroten had 29 yards on 10 carries adn Dominick Sewart 11 yards on 10 tries.

WR: Isiah Geiger caught an 83-yard scoring pass and Jordan Howell a 15-yard TD strike last week.

NOTES: The Rebels played last season D-7 state runner-up Trimble tough last week. Trimble outscored South Gallia 20-0 in the fourth quarter to win 41-12. It was 7-6 at the half.

Lincoln County at South Point

QB: Sophomore Jake Ashley started the last five games last season for the Panthers.

RB: Lincoln County’s Chaz Wiley returns after missing the second half of last season with a back injury. He had 605 yards. He is joined by Blake Taylor and transfer Tristan Browning.

WR: Tanner Price is the top receiver.

DEFENSE: Alex Bruce and Austin Scraggs are the heart of the defense.

NOTES: The Panthers were 0-10 last season under first-year coach Derek Christian but return several skill players.

Green at Bellaire St. John

QB: Bellaire will run the spread offense behind transfer Chaice Truex (6-5, 245) who played TE at Bishop Donahue in Wheeling, W.Va. last season and Cameron Opic (5-9 185). Both can play WR.

RB: Malik FOrd (5-9, 165) and Nick Wilson (5-9, 170) lead St. John.

NOTES: Bellaire St.John was 0-10 last season has begun this year 0-2. Both teams have lost to Millersport. Jose Davis leaves Bellaire to be the new head coach at St. John.

VIDEO GAME OF THE WEEK: Ohio University Southern’s high school football game of the week will be Ashland at Ironton. The game will be on the Ironton Tribune website and OKTV Channel 25.

The remainder of the schedule: Fairland-Chesapeake Oct. 3; Fairland-Rock Hill Oct. 17; South Point-Coal Grove Oct. 24; Raceland-Ironton Oct. 31
