WEST PORTSMOUTH — Turnovers.

Four lost fumbles and a blocked punt spelled disaster for the Rock Hill Redmen in a 42-6 loss to the Portsmouth West Senators on Friday.

West (2-2) took advantage of the turnovers to build a 35-0 halftime lead.

The Senators scored three times in the first quarter on a 5-yard pass from Steven Irwin to Wes Bailey, a 16-yard run by Trevar Welch and a 38-yard blocked punt return by Austin Kinker to make it 21-0.

Welch had another 16-yard scoring run in the second quarter and Sam Kegley ran 7 yards for a touchdown. Jay Pitts kicked all the extra points.

Welch had the final West score on a 4-yard run late in the third quarter.

Rock Hill (1-3) avoided the shutout on a 9-yard scoring run by Chance Blankenship with eight minutes to play.

Blankenship had 53 yards on 11 carries. Rock Hill ran 42 times for 162 yards and had 20 more yards passing.

West finished with 260 total yards led by Kegley with 80 yards on six carries and Welch with 78 yards on 19 attempts.
