Flyers fall to Pirates

WHEELERSBURG — The St. Joseph Flyers fell to the Wheelersburg Pirates 8-0 Tuesday in a soccer game.

Wheelersburg led 5-0 at the half.

Flyers’ goalkeeper Joey Bush had 21 saves.

“Wheelersburg is a very good team and we could not match them tonight,” said Flyers’ coach Mike Balestra. “Their speed was hard to counter. They had possession 85 percent of the game.”

St. Joseph had eight shots on goal, one corner kick, eight fouls with no offside penalties.

Wheelersburg had 10 corner kicks with six fouls and three offside penalties.

In the reserve game, the two teams tied 1-1. Bryson Carter had the Flyers’ goal.

St. Joseph hosts Lincoln County, W.Va., on Monday.
