Flyers take control in soccer win over Pike

First, the St. Joseph Flyers took control. Next the took the game.

The Flyers shook off a slow start and took control of the game as they beat Pike Christian 6-3 Saturday in a soccer contest.

“We started slow and fell behind 2-0. We didn’t score until late in the first half,” said Flyers’ coach Mike Balestra. “The second half we started off with good movement and passing and took control of the game.”

After falling behind 2-0, the Flyers tied the game before halftime and then outscored Pike Christian 4-1 in the second half.

Tre Neal scored two goals while Issac Walker, Bryson Canter, Alex Ward and Peyton Adkins scored one each.

Blake Balestra, Joey Bush, Chase Walters and Clay Willis all had an assist.

Bradley Rist and Daniel Davidson combined for 13 saves.

The Flyers had 39 shots on goal to 16 for Pike Christian. St. Joseph had two corner kicks, no offside penalty and three fouls. Pike Christian had two corner kicks and on foul.

The Flyers host Lincoln County, W.Va., on Monday.
