FRANKLIN FURNACE — The blue-collar workers of the offense did black and blue work.

The Symmes Valley offensive line was instrumental in the Vikings’ running game that helped produce a 42-0 win over the Green Bobcats Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb praised the work of center Jonah Graybeal, guards Tyler Dement and Travis Gates, and tackles Ian McCleese, Ethan Stapleton and Blake Bowen.

“Our offensive line did a good job opening up holes. When you rush just 22 times for 273 yards, you’re doing a good job up front,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

Tanner Mays led the Vikings’ ground game with 106 yards on just four carries and scored three times.

Collin Webb added 51 yards o four tries and a score, Payton Hayes had 44 yards on four carries, and quarterback Derrek Smith ran twice for 45 yards and also threw a touchdown pass.

After forcing a punt to start the game, the Vikings used four plays to go 42 yards with Webb’s 16-yard scoring run capping the drive. Tyler Ferguson kicked the first of six extra points.

Symmes Valley took over at its own 48 following a failed fake punt. Two plays later Mays ran 48 yards for the score and a 14-0 lead.

Mays then ran 15 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0 late in the first quarter.

Smith hit Cameron Meadows with a 53-yard scoring pass early in the second quarter and it was 28-0.

Dillon McFann’s interception gave the Vikings the ball at the Green 35 and two plays later Mays ran 22 yards for the scored and a 35-0 lead.

The defense held on downs and got the ball back at the Bobcats’ 30-yard line. Webb ran 22 yards and Brandon Craft finished off the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run at the 6:11 mark.

The Vikings are now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the SOC. Webb was proud of how his team rebounded from last week’s overtime loss to Northwest.

“Our kids bounced back well from last week. It shows the competitive nature of our kids,” said Webb.

Green (2-4, 0-1) had 101 yards — all on the ground. Wyatt Blevins rushed 21 times for 93 yards.
