Rev. Jarvis Wilds

Jan. 23, 1919 — Oct. 16, 2014

 

Rev. Jarvis E. “Micky” Wilds, 95, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Jan. 23, 1919, a son to the late John and Pearl (Hall) Wilds. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Juanita G. (Johnson) Wilds, who passed away Aug. 9, 2014.

Micky attended Pedro schools and later enlisted in the United States Army. After serving in the Army, Micky went to work as a self-employed contractor. He also ministered several churches since 1953 including Mt. Calvary, Bald Knob, Woodland Chapel, Route 60 Freewill Baptist Church and LaGrange Freewill Baptist Church. Micky loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two daughters, who were his pride and joy. Micky was a very loving father, who will be sadly missed. In addition to his family, Micky enjoyed spending time with “Jazzy,” his dog.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters Ida Moore, Dorothy Wilds, Betty Kiser, Freda Wilds and Hazel Wilds; brothers Walter, John, Joseph, Arthur, Pearl and Gerald “Jack” Wilds; and son-in-law, Thomas Lewis.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rusty White, of Ironton; daughter, Beverly Lewis, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Rocky (Angie) White, of Ironton, Misty (Mark) Jones, of Columbus, and Shawn Lewis, of Columbus; and three great-grandchildren, Laken White and Rocky White Jr., both of Ironton, and Makayla Jones, of Columbus.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton with brother Dave Schug, brother Aaron Abner and brother Chad Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Section K of Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service. Mildred Delong

Aug. 14, 1960 — Oct. 16, 2014

 

Mildred “Louise” Delong, 54, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 14, 1960, a daughter of Ruby Cremeans Delong, of Ironton, and the late George Delong.

Louise was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended the Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Teresa Delong, of Ironton; a niece, Kassandra Delong, of Ironton; a special aunt and uncle, Genevieve and Mart Howard, of Ironton; and a host of cousins and friends.

Melvin Suffron

June 20, 1924 — Oct. 11, 2014

 

Melvin Paul Suffron, 90, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born in his family’s farmhouse in West Union on June 20, 1924, to his parents, Stanley and Mauna (Lloyd) Suffron. He was the loving husband of the late Eva (nee Chafin) and father of two children, John and Mary. Melvin was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who was present at the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

He is survived by his son, John Suffron, of Chagrin Falls; and his daughter, Mary Alexander, of Scottsdale, Arizona; as well as five grandchildren, John, Valerie, Ryan, Lauren and Daniel; one great-granddaughter, Matilda; and Lauren is due to deliver the second in April.

The visitation is from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, 8694 State Route 136 in West Union. The funeral service follows at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Pastor Bill Cooper will officiate. The interment will be at Kirker Cemetery in Liberty Township in Adams County. The Adams County Honor Guard will perform a military service. Clodine Browning

Clodine A. Browning, 86, of Chesapeake, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at Midland Meadows Senior Living in Ona, West Virginia. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville by pastor Bill Flannery. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Marvin Boggs

May 15, 1944 — Oct. 16, 2014

 

Marvin Everett Boggs, 70, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center-Ironton Campus. The Lawrence County native was born May 15, 1944, a son of the late William and Alma Ervin Boggs. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carol Cremeans Boggs, whom he married Dec. 18, 1993.

Mr. Boggs was a 1964 graduate of Rock Hill High School and was an equipment operator for Hecla Water Company, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Catlettsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtle Crum, Martha Watson, Bonnie Littlejohn and Darlene Layne; and three brothers, Kenneth Layne, Harold Layne and Donald Layne.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Judy (Mark Barney) Boggs, of Lucasville, Donna (Donna Meeks) Boggs, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Wanda Boggs, of Ironton; three stepsons, Roy (Lisa) Earwood, of Lebanon, Rick (Shirley) Earwood, of Portsmouth, and Randy (Kristen) Earwood, of Portsmouth; two brothers, Roy (Sally) Boggs and William (Fern) Boggs, all of Ironton; 12 grandchildren, Darlene Boggs, Christopher Boggs, Andrew Crawford, Nicole Barney, Brandon Earwood, Joshua Earwood, Elliauna Earwood, Austin Stapleton, Dustin Stapleton, Brittany Henry, Danny Miller and Amy Howard; a great-grandchild, Miranda Henry; his special companion, his cat, Stinker; and his camping buddies, Alfreda and Jack Tackett, among others.

Anna Sturgill

May 8, 1909 — Oct. 15, 2014

 

Anna Virginia Sturgill, 105, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at a Jo-Lin Health Center. Miss Sturgill was born May 8, 1909, in Oldtown, Kentucky, a daughter to the late Joseph E. and Amanda Carpenter Sturgill.

Miss Sturgill was former clerk for Staley’s Pharmacy and a member of First Baptist Church since 1938.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Kowall and Iona Sturgill; and a brother, Emmett Sturgill.

She is survived by a niece, Margaret Ann McGhee, of Glendale, Arizona; two nephews, Emmett Sturgill, of Kingman, Arizona, and Ken Kowall, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; and a special friend and caretaker, Linda Burcham, of Ironton.

Funeral services will be noon on Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland cemetery. Marlene Ettinger

Marlene Hignite Wheeler Ettinger, 81, of Ashland, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Bailey Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.
