Kelly Joyce

Nov. 28, 1948 — Oct. 21, 2104

 

Master Chief Kelly Dean Joyce, U.S. Navy Retired, 65, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at his home in Sharpsburg, Georgia, surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 28, 1948, in Edgewater, Kentucky, to the late John Rufus Joyce and Ruby Eleanor Carty Joyce.

Kelly grew up in Streetsboro and after graduation from high school enlisted in the Navy. He served 22 years and retired as a Master Chief. After retirement he worked for several steel mills and later as head of maintenance for a nursing home in Peoria, Illinois. He and his wife moved to Sharpsburg three years ago. Mr. Joyce was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

The funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with Father Terry Crone officiating. The visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, Georgia. Graveside services will be at noon on Monday at Calvary Cemetery in Coal Grove. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. on Monday at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home in. Ironton VFW Post 8850 will perform military rites. Rather than flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Survivors include wife, Debbie Morris Joyce; children, Kelley Bush and husband, Chris, of Sharpsburg, Dena Snavely and husband, Sam, of Lakeview, Christen Ward and husband, Dave, of Lima, and Kevin Joyce and wife, Brandy, of Lima; sister, Mary Ann Sellers, of Sharpsburg; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

 

Eddie McClellan

Aug. 23, 1965 — Oct. 22, 2014

 

Eddie Ray McClellan, 49, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Ironton native was born Aug. 23, 1965, a son of the late James and Tina Fay Harmon McClellan.

Eddie attended Rock Hill High School and was a former roofer for Thompson Roofing Company for 10 years. He attended the Apostolic Church of God in Hanging Rock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Robert McClellan.

He is survived by two daughters, Tina Marie McClellan and Samantha Ross, both of Huntington; two brothers, Cecil McClellan and Larry McClellan, both of Ironton; a sister, Kathy (Ken) Roberts, of Coal Grove; two grandchildren, Madison Ross and Gavin Ross; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with brother Kenny Waller and elder brother Bill Spriggs officiating. Ada Schaffer

Dec. 8, 1929 — Oct. 22, 2014

 

Ada E. Schaffer, 84, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Trinity, Kentucky, native was born Dec. 8, 1929, a daughter of the late Wilson and Martha Snyder Fry. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William H. Schaffer.

Ada was a graduate of Glenwood High School in New Boston and a former employee for Ashland Oil. She was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Knight; and

three brothers, Joseph Fry, Warren Fry and Harry Fry.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sue (Jeff) Vanderhoof, of Ironton; three grandchildren, Ali Burns, Andrew (Tyler) Fortman, and Seth (Amy) Knight; and two great-grandchildren, Maddox Knight and Jillian Burns.

The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at their residence, 1014 S. Seventh St. in Ironton. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East.
