CHESAPEAKE — As churches in the eastern end get ready for the holidays, those who organize the food and toy distribution at the Chesapeake Community Center are looking for some extra help.

Typically students from nearby high schools work putting together food baskets and stockings. But with the Christmas vacation starting on Friday, organizers are concerned there won’t be enough volunteers to work at the center.

Starting on Wednesday through Friday, volunteers are needed to stuff children’s stockings, plus put together goody bags for 75 men and 75 women.

Then on Dec. 22 the 650 fruit and food baskets will be put together.

Anyone interested in helping can just show up at the Chesapeake center from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. any of those days.

“Any pair of hands will be mighty appreciated,” Father Charles Moran, of St. Ann’s Church, said.
