CHESAPEAKE — A run at the end of the first half proved to be the end for the South Point Pointers.

Chesapeake held a slim lead in the second quarter, but the Panthers went on an 8-0 run to close the half that continued into the third quarter as they beat the Pointers 54-31 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Chesapeake (2-0, 1-0) led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter and 17-15 when they scored eight unanswered points to lead 25-15 at the half.

The Panthers’ defense dominated in the third quarter and Aaron Thompson scored 5 points as Chesapeake outscored the Pointers 14-3 and extended the lead 39-18.

Gage Rhoades led the Panthers with 18 points including 11 in the first half. Brad Meadows added 11 points.

Ryan Gibson scored 15 points to lead South Point (1-3, 1-1).

“We had the tempo of the game the way we wanted until they made that run and we don’t have the fire-power,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.
