RIO GRANDE — The Coal Grove Hornets’ scoring was coming from everywhere.

The Hornets had four players in double figures as they whipped the Eastern Brown Eagles 62-45 Saturday in the University of Rio Grande Newt Oliver Classic.

Travis Carey came off the bench to score 20 points, Austen Pleasants 12 points, and Isaiah Gunther and Brandon Adkins 11 each to lead the Hornets (1-2).

Gunther scored 7 points and Adkins had 4 more as Coal Grove took a 15-9 first quarter lead.

Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter and it was 26-20 at the half.

But Pleasants took over in the third quarter by scoring 10 points and Carey added 4 more and the Hornets held Eastern to 6 points and the lead was now 42-26.

In the fourth quarter, Carey scored 12 points and Gunther was 4 of 4 from the line — the Hornets were 10 of 15 from the line in the quarter — to offset 8 points by Brandon Court and 7 by Mick Hundley for Eastern.

Court finished with 13 points and Hundley 10.

Coal Grove visits Fairland on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
