Lady Pointers’ trio sparks win

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Lady Pointers needed the trio of Brooklyn Badgett, Abbey Winkler and Haley Rawlins to score in order to win.

The trio did score on Monday and the result was a 48-34 win over Cross Lanes (W.Va.) Christian.

Badgett had 13 points, Rawlins 12 and Winkler 10 to lead the Lady Pointers (2-3).

Courtney Kendrick scored 11 points to pace Cross Lanes.

Rawlins scored 6 oints in the first quarter to offset 5 points by Kendrick and the Lady Pointers led 11-10.

Badgett scored 7 points including a 3-pointer in the second quarter as South Point opened up a 25-21 halftime lead. Abby Jeffrey scored 6 points for Cross Lanes.

The Lady Pointers began to pull away in the third quarter as they outscored Cross Lanes 16-8 to lead 41-29. Rawlins, Badgett and Winkler scored 4 points each in the quarter.

The Lady Pointers made 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

South Point will host its Holiday Shootout on Saturday.

Symmes Valley plays Lincoln County, W.Va., at 3 p.m., Chesapeake faces Greenup County, Ky., at 5 p.m. and South Point hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame at 7 p.m.
