CHESAPEAKE — If the offense isn’t working, turn to the defense.

That’s what the Chesapeake Lady Panthers did as they beat the Greenup County Lady Musketeers 35-30 on Tuesday to win their Lady Peake Holiday Tournament.

“The shots just weren’t falling and we turned the ball over too many times,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball. “But we did play good defense. We held them to 30 points, so we had a good effort on the defensive side of the ball.”

Kaylee Curry scored 16 points to go with 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots to lead the Lady Panthers (6-2). Atiya Spaulding had 6 rebounds and Sydnee Hall had 5 rebounds.

Jordan Moore scored 11 points to lead Greenup County (5-5).

The game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter and Curry scored 5 points in the second quarter to give Chesapeake an 18-17 halftime lead.

It was 24-23 after three quarters and Curry scored 5 points in the fourth quarter including two clutch free throws with 20 seconds left to seal the win.

Lincoln County rallied in the second half to beat South Point 54-46 in the consolation game.

Lindsey Prichard scored 15 points and Taylor Adkins 13 for Lincoln County.

Haley Rawlins led South Point with 15 points while Brooklyn Badgett Scored 12.
