COAL GROVE — If you’re going to the Dr. Paulus Classic at Coal Grove High School this weekend, you’d better be ready to look upward.

Height will be everywhere with a strong lineup of teams from Ohio and Kentucky.

Maple Heights from Ohio along with Cordia and Raceland from Kentucky join Coal Grove and St. Joseph comprise the varsity field

The Paulus Classic also include junior high and junior varsity games and one girls’ game between host Coal Grove and St. Joseph.

The teams feature 12 starting players between 6-foot-2 and 6-11. There are also two players who have committed to Division I college football programs.

The top players include:

Maple Heights, located just southeast of Cleveland, features 6-6 wing Maurice Wilson, 6-2 guard Joe Schmook, 6-3 wing Laquan Taylor, and 6-4 Ohio State football recruit Kierre Hawkins.

Cordia ( 4-1), Kentucky’s 2013-14 All “A” state runners-up, features 6-11 Center Oumar Keita and 6-6 forward Richard Chapman both being recruited to play at the next level.

Raceland currently sits at 5-3 and features 5-9 senior guard Jacob Blair, 6-2 forward Tyler Morris, and 6-3 forward Conner Messer who is begin recruited for football and track. Messer is a national high school decathlon champion.

Coal Grove features 5-11 senior guard Sean Paulus, 6-8 senior center Red Pleasants — an Ohio University football commit — and 6-5 senior forward Brandon Adkins.

Ironton St. Joseph has 6-6 Chris Lewis, 6-3 Troy Scott and 5-10 guard Wulf Goheen.
