Donald Hughes

Sept. 24, 1977-Dec. 23, 2014

Donald James Hughes, 37, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, Columbus. He was born Sept. 24, 1977, in Columbus, a son of Virginia Lee Dutcher Hughes of South Point and the late James Ellis Hughes.

Donald was employed at Randy’s Salvage in Coal Grove as a mechanic.  He is survived by his wife, Jamie Francine Gilbert Hughes; five children, Blake Hughes, Sean Hughes, Kaylee Hughes, Tristian Hughes and Cole Hughes; a sister and fiancé, Brandi Hughes and Mikey Barnett, of Coal Grove; a brother and sister-in-law, James Ellis and Millisa Hughes, II, of South Point; and five nephews, Drew, Tyler, Bailey, Dominic and Jake.

Emma Bare

Nov. 30, 1925-Dec. 25, 2014

Emma Jane Bare, 89, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at her daughter’s residence in Marion. The Coal Grove native was born Nov. 30, 1925, a daughter of the late Edgar and Della Carey Moore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Fields Bare, who passed away Dec. 20, 2013.

Mrs. Bare attended Coal Grove High School, was a member of the Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth (Jim) Orthmeyer.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Sue (George) Waugh, of Marion; two grandchildren, Tammy (Scott) Galyk, of Marion, and Juliane (Jim) Gault, of Maumee; four great grandchildren, Britani Galyk, Emily Galyk, both of Marion, Cameron McKinley, and Cole McKinley, both of Maumee; two step great grandchildren, Brooke and Jackson Gault, of Maumee; brother-in-law: Edward Bare, of Ashland, Ohio; niece: Debbie Orthmeyer, of Ironton; and nephew, Mike (Becky) Orthmeyer, of Dublin.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 11a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Peggy Julian

Dec. 3, 1935-Nov. 25, 2014

Peggy Jo Julian, 78, of Kettering, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014. She was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Coal Grove, to the late Joseph & Myrtle (Miller) Holliday. Peggy worked at the Developmental Center for Handicapped Children in Dayton for over 20 years and was a lifetime member of the VFW #2800 Ladies Auxiliary. Along with her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Sue Terry. Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Julian; two daughters, Carol Kay Julian and Cheryl Irene Wilson; granddaughter, Leslie Wilson; and sister, Helen Bailey. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Timothy Miller

Nov. 28, 1966-Dec. 23, 2014

Timothy “Tim” Miller, 48, died in his home in Westerville, on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. Tim was born on Nov. 28, 1966, in Columbus, to Donald and the late Joyce Miller.

He graduated from the Westerville South High School in 1985. Tim held various jobs over the years before becoming disabled due to a medical condition. He was known as a creative person, with two of his poems being published.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce.

He is survived by his father, Donald Miller; brother, Jerry Miller; and sister, Tonya Adkins; along with several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lewis and Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill, with pastor Cline Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow in Gallia Baptist Cemetery. Kenneth Cornell

Kenneth D. Cornell, 76, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday Dec. 26, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.  He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Cornell.  Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

 

Mona Holcom

Dec. 27, 1931-Dec. 26, 2014

Mona F. Holcom, 82, of Haverhill, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at River Bend Assisted Living in Wheelersburg.  Born on Dec. 27, 1931, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Porter Sparks, and stepmother, Virtie Davis Sparks.

Mona was a graduate of South Webster High School in the class of 1950.  Through her life, she was employed at the Williams Shoe Factory, Goodyear Atomic Corporaton, but better known as running a family-owned business in Haverhill with her husband.  To those that knew her, she was known for her charming personality and social graces and the lover of conversation.  She truly never met a person that she did not know.  She was also a devoted Christian and had a true love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Mona enjoyed reading His word in her spare time.  She was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Jessie (J.L.) Holcom; her brothers, Charles Sparks, William (Bill) Sparks, Edward Sparks, Jack Sparks and Daniel Sparks, as well as a sister, Marjorie (Sparks) McCarty.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Catherine Sparks and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Rase Martin officiating.  Interment will be in the Memorial Burial Park.  The family will receive guests at Brant’s after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

JD Williams

March 28, 1938-Dec. 23, 2014

Jayhue D. “JD”  Williams, Jr.  76, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center. JD was born March 28, 1938, in Ashland, a son of the late Jayhue D. & Martha E. Church Williams. JD was a retired chief of police with the South Point Police Department. He was also a member of the F.O.P in Ashland, Ironton Elks and was baptized at the Pollard Baptist Church in Ashland. JD is survived by his wife Jenny Ruggles Williams. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Scot and Tracy Williams, of Ironton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Terri and Mike Ward, of Kenova, West Virginia and Sherri Williams of South Point; five grandchildren, Bethany, Taylor, Alison, Drake and Katelyn; a brother and sister-in-

law, Jack and Joyce Williams, of Atlanta, Georgia; and nieces and nephews, Gregg, Rick, Jonathan, Jodi, Jeri, Debbie, Teresa and Dave.

JD is preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by two sisters. The funeral services for JD will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rick Williams. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

 

 

Ruth Taylor

Ruth May Brammer Taylor, 79, of Columbus, formerly of Ironton passed away Dec. 18, 2014 at the Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus..

She was the daughter of Olive Eloise Brammer of Deering and the late Clyde Brammer. The most important job to her was taking care of her family.

In addition to her dad she was preceded in death by a son, Walter Taylor.

Those left to mourn her passing include a son, Mark Taylor and his wife Margaret; two daughters, Joni Saffari and her husband Matt, and Walena Brown and her husband Carl; a brother, Bernard Brammer; a sister, Eloise Mckinney; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Services were held on Monday in the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Ice Creek Church Cemetery. The family entrusted her care to Brown Funeral Chapel.

 

 

Leland Creed

Leland K. Creed, 88, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods. Arrangements are pending at  Bailey Family Funeral Home.

 

Jay Williams

Jay D. Williams,  76, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was the husband of Jenny Ruggles Williams, who survives. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lazear

Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rick Williams. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

 

 

Janet Stapleton

Janet Lee Stapleton, 91, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.  Private family services will be held at a later date.  Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Harry Daniels

Harry Russell Daniels, Jr., 75, of Chesapeake, died Dec. 19, 2014, at home.
