LOGAN — Fairland coach Jon Buchanan didn’t want his Lady Dragons to slow down and smell the roses, but he did want them to at least slow down enough to tell what kind of flowers they really were.

Caught up in the tempo set by Logan, the Lady Dragons committed 14 turnovers in the first half in falling behind 20-16.

But once they calmed down, the Lady Dragons rallied in the second half to beat the Logan Lady Chiefs 49-42 on Saturday.

In fact, Fairland (6-3) had no turnovers in the third quarter as they opened the half with a 9-0 run and outscored Logan 19-6 to take a 35-26 lead.

“I’ll be honest, I told out kids during timeouts in the first half that, ‘I don’t know why we’re in such a hurry to run the offense.’

“(Logan coach Seth Martin) does a great job and (the Lady Chiefs) are really great defensively. Their man defense is very good. But we were in such a hurry, I just wnted them to settle down and be strong with the ball, maybe take a breath when (catching) the basketball and they did a better job of that.”

Logan went on a 7-0 run and cut the gap to 41-39 before Caitlin Stone hit a 3-pointer for Fairland.

The Lady Chiefs were down 44-42 with a minute left but Emily Chapman found Taylor Staten open behind the Logan defense for an easy layup with 52 seconds to go while Jenna Fulks added a foul shot and Maddy Kazee a transition layup to seal the win.

Stone scored 15 points and Fulks had 11 points and 4 rebounds for Fairland. Mackenzie Riley led the team with 11 rebounds while Kelsey Riley had 3 assists and 3 steals.

Logan (7-3) was paced by Paige Davis with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Allison McNeal grabbed 9 rebounds.
