Dorothy Church

Dec. 2, 1926 — Jan. 12, 2015

 

Dorothy Candace Church, 88, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Aid native was born Dec. 2, 1926, a daughter of the late John Franklin and Florence Belle Halsey Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Calvin Church Sr., whom she married May 23, 1947.

Dorothy was a model of traditional values, was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She treasured her time caring for her family and also enjoyed cooking and baking for Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings. Dorothy nourished people around her with her love and faith in the Lord. Her spirit and love for her family and life will always bring a smile to our faces and live in our hearts forever. Dorothy was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Mae McClung; three grandchildren, Ryan Lee McClung, Donald W. Dalton II and Angela Lynn Dalton Sweetay; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Faye Ann Dalton.

She is survived by five daughters, Janet Lee (Don) Dalton, of Shelbyville, Indiana, Carol Jean (John) Delaney, of San Antonio, Florida, Mary Jo (Kenneth) Hulbert, of Springfield, Linda Kay (Roger) Cremeans, of Ironton, and Tammy Florence (Larry) Vencill, of Ironton; a son, Joseph Calvin (Kelly) Church Jr., of Racine, Wisconsin; a son-in-law, Roger Lee McClung, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Ogle Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Robert Harvey

Sept. 8, 1956 — Jan. 12, 2015

 

Robert Cletice Harvey, 58, of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, formerly of Ironton, died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, from complications of a stroke at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky. He was born Sept. 8, 1956, the son of the late Bill Harvey and Glenna Juel Henderson, of Flatwoods. A 1974 graduate of Ironton High School, Mr. Harvey served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal in 1977. Mr. Harvey entered the pipe trades as an apprentice with the nationwide United Association of Road Sprinklerfitter’s Local 669, becoming a journeyman sprinklerfitter in 1982. He spent the next 36 years working across the U.S., from Texas to Philadelphia to Chicago, the last 15 years as a foreman and superintendent level sprinklerfitter. During his apprenticeship he completed two years of apprentice training with the Pennsylvania State University distance learning office.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Cody Harvey and Austin Harvey; four brothers, Don Shannon, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Mike Harvey, of Flatwoods, Fred Ehrlich, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Paul Henderson, of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister, Debbie Perkins, of Flatwoods; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at noon on Thursday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home in Ironton with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. on Thursday until service time.

 

 

Minnie France

Minnie Mae Fortner France, 77, of Huntington, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.
