PORTSMOUTH — It might now have been Halloween, but the Rock Hill Redmen decided to give the Portsmouth Trojans a scare.

The Redmen led the Trojans 19-18 at the half before Portsmouth rallied in the second half and came away with a 52-40 Ohio Valley Conference win on Tuesday.

“We played our tails off. We controlled the tempo and handled the ball and outplayed them for three quarters of the game. We just went cold in the third quarter and they went off,” said Rock Hill coach Dave Hopper.

Portsmouth (9-3, 5-1) went off in the second half by hitting five 3-point goals and converting four 3-point plays. The Trojans outscored the Redmen 23-9 in the decisive third quarter.

Austin Collins scored 17 points and Jake Falls had 14 to lead the Redmen.

Sky Oliver hit five 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Portsmouth. Ky’re Allison added 13 points.

The game was tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter. Collins and Falls scored 4 points each in second to match 9 points by Oliver as Rock Hill (3-8, 0-5) took the 19-18 lead.

Allison scored 6 points while Alex Dickerson and Oliver had 5 each in the Trojans third quarter explosion.

Collins scored 6 more points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill outscored the Trojans 12-11, but Oliver had 6 points and Allison 5 to prevent any comeback.
