FRANKLIN FURANCE — Change is good.

Using a variety of defenses, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings beat the Green Lady Bobcats 53-30 on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We tried to use our depth tonight and changed defenses a lot to suit our personnel that we had on the floor,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker.

“We did a nice job in transition as well on the boards. We got great minutes out of everyone who checked in and got some playing time tonight. It was a good team win.”

Meranda Hayes had 14 points while Payton Walsh added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as the Lady Vikings (5-9, 3-5) won their third straight.

Symmes Valley had 33 rebounds with Kaitlyn Payne pulling down 8. Elly Fulks and Hayes had 5 steals each and Breanna Brumfield handed out 5 assists.

“We have tweaked a few things defensively that seem to be working for us and giving us a chance to win games even when we’re shooting a low percentage form the field,” said Walker.

Madi Applegate scored 17 points to lead Green.

Symmes Valley raced to a 15-2 first quarter lead as five different players scored.

Hayes scored 8 points and Fulks 6 points as the lead ballooned to 31-13 at the half. Walsh scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Lady Vikings outscored Green 20-7 and it was 51-20.

The Lady Vikings play at Beaver Eastern on Thursday.
