Herd drops 8th straight; Kent St. tops Ohio

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Marquan Botley scored 17 of his season-high 23 in the second half, Solomon Poole added 18 points and Florida Atlantic took over down the stretch for a 76-62 win over Marshall on Saturday.

C.J. Turman added 13 points and Kelvin Penn scored 12 with nine rebounds for Florida Atlantic (8-8, 1-4 Conference-USA), which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Marshall (4-14, 0-5), which lost its eighth-straight game, took a 34-30 lead into halftime, and led 60-59 with 3:35 left, but was out-scored 17-2 down the stretch.

Ryan Taylor scored 24, one off his career high, for Marshall. Aleksa Nikolic added 15 points and Jay Johnson scored 10.

FAU, which shot 56 percent in the second half, finished 8 of 24 from 3-point range while the Thundering Herd shot just 16.7 percent (2 of 12) from beyond the arc.

Kent St. 69, Ohio 59

KENT (AP) — Derek Jackson had 18 points and Kent State held a double-digit lead through the entire second half in a 69-59 win over Ohio on Saturday.

Kent State (12-5, 3-1 Mid-American) had its largest lead at 61-40 with 5 minutes left and was never threatened by Ohio’s rally to within 10.

Kris Brewer scored 14 points and a pair of 3-pointers for the Golden Flashes, who built their first-half lead to 26-15 with a 14-2 run and closed the period up 30-19. Jimmy Hall added 12 points and Chris Ortiz scored 10.

Maurice Ndour had 19 points and 12 rebounds in his seventh double-double of the season to lead Ohio (5-10, 0-4). Stevie Taylor added 10 points.

The Bobcats outrebounded Kent State 41-34 but struggled with 18-of-53 shooting (34 percent) and 14 turnovers.

The Golden Flashes stayed tied with Buffalo, Bowling Green and Akron atop the MAC East Division.
