John Robinson

Sept. 29, 1945 — Jan. 18, 2015

 

John W. Robinson Jr., 69, of Pedro, passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. The Boyd County, Kentucky, native was born Sept. 29, 1945, a son of the late John Sr. and Pauline Cox Robinson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Smith Robinson, who passed away May 14, 2011.

John attended South Point schools and was a retired truck driver for R&L Carriers, retiring in 2006 after 20 years of service. He attended the Lorain Street Gospel Mission, was a 32nd degree Mason and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also loved watching dirt track racing.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Willie Childers and Roy Pennington.

He is survived by a daughter, Johnda (Gordy) Collins, of South Webster; three sons, Todd (Tammy) Robinson, of South Point, Carl (Monica) Robinson, of Ironton, and Troy Robinson, of Pedro; a brother, Daniel (Jeanie) Robinson, of Waverly; three sisters, Connie (John) Holmes, of Ironton, Sharon Childers and Regina Pennington, both of South Point; six grandchildren, Caitlin Robinson, Carly Robinson, Jarred (Brigitte) Collins, Austin Collins, Donald Malone and Hayden Robinson; and three great-grandchildren, Jayden Malone, Makaila Malone and Reece Collins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Trent Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Rose Rist

June 15, 1937 — Jan. 19, 2015

 

Rose Marie Rist, 77, of Ironton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. The Ironton native was born June 15, 1937, a daughter of the late Alex and Fannie Morrison Markins.

Ms. Rist was a graduate of Ironton High School in 1955 and a homecoming queen and Festival of the Hills queen. She was a seamstress and a former employee of the Coffee Shop. She attended Mamre Baptist Church in Kitts Hill. Her greatest achievement was being a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved and supported all of the students at Cyndi’s Studio for over 26 years and was loved by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Markins.

She is survived by three daughters, Cyndi Roth, Teresa (Mike) Belcher, and Beth Rist, all of Ironton; a son, Alex (Holly) Markins, of League City, Texas; a sister, Joanne (Dave) McCown, of Ironton; a brother, Mike Markins, of Ironton; four grandchildren, Blake Roth, of Ironton, Amariah (Matt) Fultz, of Flatwoods, Bryce Markins and Ace Markins, both of League City, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Ariella Roth, of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with pastors Ryan McKee and John Paul Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Michael Eugene Russell, 48, of Crown City, husband of Sheryl Russell, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Edward Battiste

Oct. 9, 1942 — Jan. 19, 2015

 

Edward M. “Rabbit” Battise, 72, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Oct. 9, 1942, a son of the late Daniel E. Battise and Nellie Hayes Battise.

Mr. Battise was a 1963 graduate of Ironton High School and attended Quinn Chapel Church and Christ Temple. He was a former employee of CSX Railroad, Dow Chemical and retired in 2005 after working 25 years for the City of Ironton Sanitation Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Battise; and four brothers, Don, William, Dale and Michael Battise.

He is survived by daughter, Erma Battise, of Columbus; son, Edward B. Battise Jr., of Columbus; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christie Battise, of Columbus; two grandchildren, Shanelle Wilson and Natasha Battise, both of Columbus; four sisters, Gloria Carlisle, of Ironton, Judy Vinson, of Cadiz, Kentucky, Shirley Baker, of Ironton and Carla Battise, of Ironton; a brother, Leonard “Pappy” Battise, of Ironton; and a special friend, Marian Battise, of Columbus.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Uriah Tolbert officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Woodland Cemetery.
