A suspect in a burglary is wanted by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office after his escape from an area hospital.

William Daniel Hedrick, 44, is the object of an arrest warrant following a burglary at a Willow Wood home on Friday afternoon.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, a homeowner had arrived home to see that the house had been broken into. A man was allegedly hiding outside the house and fled on foot.

“The homeowner’s family and neighbors chased the male subject and fired a handgun at the fleeing burglar,” the release states. “The family and neighbors held the male subject at gunpoint until Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene.”

The man allegedly had jewelry and other items from the home on him.

He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.

This morning the sheriff’s office got an arrest warrant for burglary, a second-degree felony, for Hedrick. At 11:20 a.m. today, the hospital called investigators saying that Hedrick had escaped from the facility with an unknown woman who had been visiting. The man still had his IV.

Hedrick is a white male, 6 feet tall weighing 160-170 pounds. He has addresses in Ashland and Detroit, Michigan.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 532-3525 or local law enforcement.
