PEDRO — It seems like fans always get their money’s worth when these two teams play.

In typical fashion, the Coal Grove Lady Hornets battled to a 68-62 overtime win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was a typical Rock Hill-Coal Grove game. It was rough and tough,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.

“Rock Hill came out ready to play. They did a great job rebounding the entire game and they shot the 3s well. But our girls fought back and did a great job, too.”

Jacy Jones led Coal Grove (9-9, 7-3) with 29 points including 10 of 13 from the foul line. She was 5 of 6 from the line in overtime.

Leah Crum had 13 points including three 3-pointers and Summer Willis added 8 points.

“Our girls fought back. Crum hit some big shots, we shot well from the free throw line and Jones had another big game. The difference was the points that the other starters were able to put in,” said Roach.

Rock Hill (6-13, 2-8) was led by Kaci Russell with 22 points including four 3-pointers. Jill Hairston had 12 points and also made three 3-pointers while Anna Darby and Smantha Dillon scored 10 each.

The Redwomen made 10 3-pointers as a team.

Russell made two 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 20-15 lead. Jones had 7 points for Coal Grove.

Crum buried three trifectas in the second quarter as Coal Grove got within 30-29 at the half.

Jones erupted for 13 points in the third quarter as Coal Grove took a 52-41 lead. Russell had 7 points while Hairston and Madison Damron each hit treys for Rock Hill.

But Dillon and Russell had 5 points each in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill tied the game at 56.

In overtime, Jones scored 7 points including the clutch free throws and Leslie Mulkey was 2 for 2 at the line as Coal Grove outscored Rock Hill 12-6.
