SOUTH POINT — Two major keys to winning a basketball game are to play defense and make free throws.

The Rock Hill Redwomen did both on Monday and came away with a 52-47 Ohio Valley Conference win over the South Point Lady Pointers.

“Everybody contributed in one way or other,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron. “We did a pretty good job on (Abbey) Winkler and that was a key. She can make things happen.”

Rock Hill (7-14, 4-8) converted 23-of-34 foul shots with Samantha Dillon hitting 10-of-12 and Kaci Russell 9-of-13.

Dillon finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Russell scored 13 points, Madison Damron had 8 points and four assists, and Kyleigh Noel had six rebounds off the bench.

Brooklyn Badgett scored 14 points, Madison Kearns 13 points and Winkler 10 to lead the Lady Pointers (4-16, 3-9).

Rock Hill led 13-9 after the first quarter only to have South Point tie the game 23-23 at the half.

The Redwomen took a 34-30 lead after three quarter as Dillon had 9 points.

Rock Hill built a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter only to have Badgett hit a pair of 3-pointers to cut into the lead.

But Russell was 7-of-10 from the line to help seal the win and offset 6 points by Kearns.

Rock Hill plays at New Boston at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. South Point visits St. Joseph on Thursday.
