CHESAPEAKE — Stephanie Brown came back in style.

After missing last season with an injury, Brown was back pitching on Monday as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 7-2.

Brown struck out 13, walked one and allowed five hits in going the distance.

“Brown did an excellent job throwing for her first outing in two years,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “And we hit the ball well. We put the ball in play and made them make plays.”

The Lady Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Taylor Webb, Kaitlyn Payne and Tiara Hatfield all singled, Autumn Keathley walked to force in a run, and Sierra Ross and Caitlyn Carpenter both reached on errors to score runs.

The lead went to 6-0 in the top of the fourth.

Carpenter singled, Breanna Morris had a sacrifice bunt to send Carpenter to third base and she scored on a throwing error.

Brown then singled, stole second and Webb doubled in the run. Kaitlyn Payne was safe on an error and Hatfield had an RBI single.

Chesapeake got a run in the bottom of the fourth when Laura Rice walked, Melanie Noble singled and an error on the play scored the run.

The Lady Vikings got a run in the fifth on a hit by Autumn Keathley, a fielder’s choice and Morris’ RBI single.

Cheapeake’s final run scored in the fifth when Sydnee Hall singled and scored on a hit by Natalee Hall following a ground out and a fly out.

Hatfield was 4-4 and Webb 2-4 to lead a 12-hit attack.

Lyndsey Davidson was 1-3 with a double for Chesapeake.
