CHESAPEAKE — A Park Drive landslip that started Sunday night finally reached the road on Monday night.

“The land got soft and just let go,” Mayor Dick Gilpin said. “There is some rock, but it’s mostly dirt.”

There are no houses in the way of the slip, but Gilpin said that the slip will eventually impact the houses that are below the street if it is not taken care of.

The county has been assisting the village with removal of dirt and cleanup along with Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department getting tree trimmers to cut trees away from power lines, Gilpin said.

“The road will be closed for a while until is it safe enough to reopen,” Gilpin said. “However, at this time we do not know how long that will be.”
