PORTSMOUTH — This was a case of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Green was on the verge of a win, but the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge the Bobcats 4-3 on Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We fought hard, we just couldn’t finish,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “The good thing about baseball is there’s always tomorrow.”

Green (2-3, 2-3) took a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Ben Vance singled, Tyler Darnell walked, Trevor Carver had an RBI single, Mark Allen hit a run-scoring double and Josh Clark singled in the final run.

Notre Dame’s winning rally started with one out.

Hayden Baker singled, Brandon Lansing walked and Tyler Speas had an RBI double.

Tyson Montgomery was walked intentionally to load the bases, Drew Cassidy hit into a force play at home, Billy Book reached on an error as the tying run scored and Sam Kayser singled to end the game.

The Titans first run scored in the fifth on hits by Speas, Montgomery and Cassidy.

Carver took the tough loss. He struck out seven and walked four. He also went 3-for-3 to pace the offense.

The Titans had 11 hits.

Green visits Western on Tuesday and hosts the Indians on Wednesday.
