Next Saturday, the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District will host its eighth annual Lawrence County Drug Take Back Day.

The event will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Ironton Hills Plaza.

The LSSWMD, with help from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Our Lady of Bellefonte Ironton Urgent Care, will collect unwanted medication — prescription or non-prescription, liquid or pills — and sharps. The medicines will be incinerated while OLBH disposes of the sharps.

At last year’s event, about 60 pounds of pills were collected and 37 pounds of syringes. More than 50 cars drove through the event.

The goal of the drug take back is to keep unwanted medications out of the water supply and also to keep prescription drugs off the streets.
